Exporting the play-by-play from PlayHQ

This only works for games scored live in PlayHQ. Those games have a play-by-play listing every basket, foul and timeout with the game clock. If your game has no play-by-play, it wasn't scored live and there's nothing to analyse.

  1. Open PlayHQ in a web browser and log in

Use playhq.com rather than the MyHoops app. Saving as a PDF works from the browser's print option.

  2. Find the game

Go to your account menu, then My Teams, and choose the team. Open the game from the fixture to reach its game details page. If you aren't linked to the team, search for the competition or team instead and open the game from its fixture.

  3. Show the play-by-play

On the game page, open the play-by-play. Scroll to the bottom and check the last event is in the final seconds of the game, so nothing is missing.

  4. Save the page as a PDF

    Computer

    1. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Cmd+P on a Mac.
    2. Set Destination or Printer to Save as PDF (in Safari, use File, then Export as PDF).
    3. Leave the pages set to All and save.

    iPhone or iPad

    1. In Safari, tap the Share button, then Print.
    2. In the print preview, tap the Share button at the top.
    3. Choose Save to Files.

    Android

    1. In Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, then Share, then Print.
    2. At the top, choose Save as PDF as the printer.
    3. Tap the PDF button and save.
  5. Upload the PDF here

Use Upload PDF above. Then check the final score at the top matches PlayHQ. If it doesn't, open the Event log at the bottom of the report to find the gap.

  6. Pick your team

Choose your team under View, or Both teams for a neutral view, and set each team's colour. The tool remembers these for next time.

No PDF? Select the whole play-by-play on the page, copy it and paste it into the box above instead.

Your data

Nothing is uploaded. The PDF or pasted text is read by your own browser. No game data, player names or files are sent to junior.basketball or anyone else, and this page has no analytics or tracking.

Nothing about the game is kept. The game, including player names, only exists while this page is open. Reload or close it and it's gone. The PDF itself is released from memory as soon as its text has been read.

Only your settings are remembered, on this device only: team colours, which team you chose, the theme and the run definitions. They contain no player names.

Downloads are yours to look after. The CSV files and printed reports include player names, so keep them somewhere private and share them only with people who need them.

    Players

Made free throws show as 1-pointers. PlayHQ doesn't record missed shots, so there are no percentages. "In runs" is points scored during a run listed above.

    Clips to review on video

The play-by-play shows when the game swung but not why. Watch the minute before each of these moments and look at the decisions that led into it.

      Adjust the definitions

      Net points, e.g. 6 means 8–2 counts but 6–2 doesn't.

      With a third, 12–4 counts as a run but 12–6 doesn't.

Net points just before the timeout compared with just after.

5 under FIBA rules. Foul trouble is flagged one foul earlier.

Settings and team colours are saved on this device only.

      How this works

Each basket in the play-by-play has a game clock and a running score. The tool turns that into a single line: your score minus theirs after every basket. Momentum is the slope of that line, so a run is a steep stretch and a drought is a flat one for your team.

A run starts and ends with a basket by the same team, beats the other side by at least the net you set, and lets the other side score only a small share of the points. That share rule matters. Without it, a long, slow stretch like 42–30 would count, which isn't what coaches mean by a run. Runs never overlap.

Game time comes from the clock, not the event count, so a 3:30 drought means 3:30 of game clock. Stopped-clock events like free throws share a time with the foul before them.

What this can't see: possessions, missed shots, turnovers and who was on the floor. Use the times above to find the moments on video, then judge the decisions, not just the result.
